作品賞析
After artist Chou Cheng-Wei returned to Taiwan from Spain, where he had studied, he planned to use different media to record the changes that had occurred in Taipei over a decade. This work, Anhe Road, took him nearly two and a half years to complete; it is also one of the series of works, “Describing the City of Taipei.” He looked out from a high point and took pictures of the rows of tall buildings. Watercolor and pencils, which can be used at any time to create and improvise, were his tools. He used the watercolor to create washes, then used the pencils to draw, repeatedly superimposing layers and a three-dimensional sense to the buildings, in order to draw the same scene of Anhe Road in different periods. The black-and-white image is like an old photo. The various seemingly unchanging objects and scenes are depicted in all their delicate complexity, but they silently bear witness to the rise and fall of the city’s tall buildings. Chou Cheng-Wei believes that the long-term devotion required to create such realistic work distinguishes them from photography.
