作品賞析

Artist Chang Yu-Chia, who is both a visual artist and a sound creator, was inspired by his experience of being anxious in a strange environment when he was living alone in a foreign country, so he created the installation Battle of Space. He built his work into a kind of spaceship control console, and made his gymnast baron character wear a spacesuit. He uses the spaceship and the highly protective spacesuit to show a person’s uneasiness and self-protection mechanisms in a foreign land. Chang combines images and sounds in his creations, so this work is also equipped with a radio device and four sound materials. The viewer operates the mixer on the table to generate the sound and sees the visualized image of the sound on the screen. Chang Yu-Chia wants to express to viewers the mutual convertibility between different artistic media and feelings. He also hopes that viewers will regard the work as an instrument by which they can easily experience the convertibility of visual and audio sensation, and derive fun from it.
