作品賞析
Chang Yu-Chia is influenced by animation culture, and his works often use cartoon and comic character styles to express his views and questions on social issues. In The Bugs series, cartoon facial expressions and caterpillar bodies are superimposed on ink-washed paper, and the artist has designed a set of mechanical devices with drawing paper and grids. As the installation begins to move, the caterpillars’ facial expressions will gradually emerge. For the viewer, it is like seeing the creatures with human faces and caterpillars’ bodies tremble slightly, and it gives the viewer a strange, wonderful visual experience. Chang Yu-Chia installed pedestals for the work, which let the bugs escape from the wall and freely move around and explore the space. While Chang Yu-Chia contemplates his own fear of insects, he leads the viewing public through his art in a demonstration of the feeling of security that industrialization has often brought, and the difference between the analog and digital eras.
