作品賞析
The artist Tsai Wei-Ting often focuses on “interpersonal relations.” The round brown areas at the center of Kiss Goodbye are blackberry roses, and on the left and right sides, there are two opposite human faces hidden among the branches and leaves. The painting is almost completely filled with the tangled branches and leaves of flowers, leaving little for people to breathe. The blackberry roses which bloom in late spring and early summer have the connotation of “beauty of the last days.” The kissing lovers are forcefully distanced by the flowers, implying that the intimacy between the two has long been a thing of the past. The branches and leaves covering and surrounding the couple’s faces are a metaphor for the remembered time of intimacy between the two, while the low-chroma tones and layers of overlapping and fused paints reflect the haziness of past emotions. Tsai Wei-Ting interpreted the world’s joys and sorrows as if in reminiscence, and used the blackberry rose as a witness to the alienation and change in an interpersonal relationship, which allows us to gain insight into the subjects’ inner state of mind from the third-person omniscient perspective.
