Artist Wang Ming Ren’s work Starry Sky has delicate brushstrokes and a clear layout. He used a circular composition to heighten the boundless nature of the “heavenly canopy.” Viewers can also turn the work upside down and enjoy it. No matter from what angle or orientation they view it, they can see the sky full of the same stars. Wang gives full play to the properties of his media, using the deep, quiet blue of lapis lazuli to bring out the brightness of the stars in the night sky, and using transparent, glossy mica to refract the light on the elegant, agile leopard. He creates a scintillating atmosphere. The fact that the sky-dome is full of stars of the Milky Way galaxy as many as tens of thousands light-years away is eternally fascinating. The leopard walking freely among these stars is a representation of the artist—charming and a little hazy.
