Artist Lee Shu Chuan often uses everyday objects around her, such as veined leaves, fabrics, the aerial roots of ferns, scouring pads, and even thick spray adhesive, to create collages; she then spreads ink on them to create prints on paper. She named this set of techniques the “S.C. ready-made object graphics,” with the “S.C.” abbreviating her name. There is a line in The Little Prince, “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” Taking the Little Prince’s home planet B612 as her theme, Lee created this print with her original techniques. Lee, who is keen to present the texture of objects’ surfaces, feels that creative inspiration constantly emerges in the process, when various possibilities emerge intuitively. She hopes that by using concrete objects, the distance between the work and the viewer will be shortened, and that it will become a safe spiritual haven.
