Lee Shu-Chuan is an artist who excels at recording life with prints. For her, everything we encounter represents a task that must be completed, but to record one’s experiences, insights, and feelings through the creative process is to know oneself and engage in a dialogue with the world. Times of Restlessness II was created in 2018. At that time, Trump had been President of the United States for a year, and the international situation was turbulent. It seemed as if a world war could begin at any time, and an atmosphere of anxiety prevailed. The artist thus took the turbulence of the time and her own feelings and put them into her prints. In this print, one can vaguely discern test-fired missiles, forks dividing food, and other objects; the use of black and gray tones and the use of blank areas in the composition create an atmosphere of collapse and crampedness, a society in which the strong oppress the weak.
