Ou Jing-Yun, the artist, is good at creating extraordinary visionary landscapes with collage and fluorescent color. Sand of Neon Temple-Full Moon is inspired by the idea that “people have been projecting their own stories and feelings on the moon since ancient times.” The artist also believes that the waxing and waning of the moon are like the fluctuations of human lives and emotions. The elements in the composition were painted by Ou on the basis of various records in art history or literary works. The incompleteness of the temple, the outer space and natural scenery is an implication of human beings’ self-projection into everything else. He uses frames and outlines to bring disparate image elements together in the composition, in a manner that opens people’s imaginations to primitive, mysterious, and illogical worlds. Although there are many images here, Ou does not define their meaning—he leaves room for viewers to project their own emotions and experiences into the work.
