Tsai Yi-Te, who concentrates mostly on ink painting, is inspired by life experiences and the people, things, and events he has encountered. His works may be divided into two main categories: figure painting and flowers. The idea behind A World in a Flower originated from the art of flower arrangement, where the idea of “a world in a flower, a heaven in a blade of grass” comes from. In the painting, there are two large, differently shaped vases full of chrysanthemums. A small water glass toward the side holds a much smaller herb that looks a little lonely. In the background, a large oval window shapes the interior space, and the angle of view from inside to outside implies that this is the interior space. The other small flowers in the room, as well as the ice-crack patterns that appear everywhere, are all small things that Tsai Yi-Te thinks are interesting and beautiful. He used things from real life combined with an imaginary space to create a scene, thereby opening a small “theater” for a dialogue with his heart.
