TSAI Yi-Te uses traditional ink painting to convey his observations of modern life. Bustling City conveys the chaos of traffic congestion. Most of the canvas is left blank, with only dry ink rubbings serving as a connection and leaving behind a narrow, black space that seems to squeeze a scooter driver and his passenger desperately trying to navigate the cramped area. The artist made clever use of the black and white colors to build a bustling and congested world despite the fact that only one single scooter is portrayed in the artwork. Once the composition was completed, TSAI Yi-Te provided a footnote at the bottom to guide the viewer’s focus and to encourage them to linger on the blank space, leaving plenty of room for imagination.
