TSAI Yi-Te uses traditional ink painting to convey his observations of modern life. Within a Single Thought is inspired by a romantic relationship. The entire canvas is left largely blank, showing only part of a table and a glass vase with roses teetering at the edge of the table, threatening to fall off at any moment. In this composition, the rose represents love, while the teetering vase represents the moments in a romantic relationship when decisions have to be made. Once the composition was completed, TSAI Yi-Te provided a footnote at the bottom to guide the viewer’s focus and to encourage them to linger on the blank space, leaving plenty of room for imagination.
