YEN Pei-Shan's work, When You Emit Rays from Your Eyes, shows the life of civillians in Taiwan. The courtyard, tiles, iron railings, and red iron gate in the picture are all elements that often appear in Taiwanese traiditonal buildings. The potted plants in front of the building are also commonly seen in the urban streetscape of Taiwan. In the picture, two human figures, represented by mere outlines, are looking at each other within the distance of one wall. The color of the picture is expressed in a distorted form, presenting a virtual atmosphere. YEN Pei-Shan tries to use the commonly seen object “net” in Taiwan to present the dubious and unfamiliar positional relationship.
