YEN Pei-Shan’s works are based upon personal experience and emotions and conveys the relationship between inner self and external individuals, events, and objects. Grow depicts a dark, depressing, and desolate wasteland with an oddly shaped humanoid creature lying on the ground, while bizarre, red-colored organisms with finger-shaped extensions sprouts and spreads forth from the creature’s body. The bright red colors stand out immediately in the dark and depressing composition, perhaps serving as a metaphor of invasion and injury.
