LIN Wei-Cheng’s works range across ink painting and gouache. He uses traditional culture as the starting point to carry out the collision of different visual and cultural elements. The work, Chong-Ming, shows a monster with big eyes similar to an eagle. The bird has a hard beak and is wearing a heavy armor. The colorful patterns are like the ornamenting style of the ancient Chinese bronze objects and have an interesting lining shape of calligraphy. People are always filled with imaginations for monsters. From the Classic of Mountains and Seas in the past, Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio, folk mythology, and even to mobile game “Pokemon Go” nowadays, the existence of monsters can always satisfy a virtual call. From these ancient and modern monsters, LIN Wei-Cheng uncovers the various images that people give to monsters, projecting desire to preserve childlike innocence.
