In Those Who Are Willing Can Get Hooked, artist LIN Wei-Cheng builds a childlike picture using vivid colors and coarse black outlines. The red house in this painting is adorned with a barcode, a wind-up key, and other motifs. Around the house are several wind-up reptilian animals, each one with a different expression and stance. But if you look closely, you’ll see Taipei 101 in the distance, peeking out from behind the craggy landscape, making you wonder where you are. In this piece, Lei describes our over-reliance on technology in modern society, using simplistic scenery to emphasize the fictional within in the real world, echoing the blurred boundary between the real and the imaginary.
