HWANG Yue-Sheng is a student of LIAO Hsiu-Ping and is dedicated to printmaking. He is one of the members of Taiwan's "Ten Youths Printmaking" and continues to promote printmaking and cultivate printmakers in the field of education. The work, To be and not to be, is created with “mezzotint”. He scraped the space and objects accompanying him during the creation off the copper plate and inked it. The picture is quiet and introverted, and time seems to flow in it, containing an explosive power. The curtains, tables, books, lights, and other objects in the space and scene are reproduced. These objects that were once present are full of memories and emotions. However, the only person who is not present is the artist himself. HWANG Yue-Sheng ponders the philosophical subject of “nothingness” and “being”.
