HSIAO Cho-Yu is interested in the characteristic of liquid through the medium of ink. He vividly presents the variability of ink, showing the vitality and energy of life. In the work, Jungle Maze, actions such as point, write, draw, shake, and splash are executed on the wet rice paper according to the amount of the water and the direction of the flow of the water. The ink slowly penetrates, flows, and gradually forms on the wet paper over time. The image full of random and occasional variability is difficult to copy and full of potential, creating a mysterious image like a jungle. The jungle is full of unknown adventures, including "hiding" and "appearing", and is waiting for the viewer to discover and imagine. HSIAO Cho-Yu demonstrates different philosophy regarding Eastern ink painting and gives his work an organic vitality.
