HSIAO Cho-Yu is skilled at abstract Chinese brush and ink painting, in which he creates a mysterious other world. In Xenogenesis, the artist uses different Chinese ink painting techniques to depict a variety of organic forms piled one atop the other. Some of these forms are like fantastic, milky clouds, others are like dense smoke from some worldly explosion, all changing into unpredictable shapes, growing wildly on the canvass, echoing each other, creating contrasts in the pure white space of the painting's composition. HSIAO Cho-Yu uses a great many flowing, bizarre shapes in his painting to portray the energy of mysterious, unseen elements so that the work projects a kind of fantasy and otherworldly atmosphere, thus using this to indicate the strange and unpredictable side of reality.
