HSIAO Cho-Yu is skilled at abstract Chinese brush and ink painting, in which he creates a mysterious other world. In Mysterious Field the artist paints extremely dense, over-layered organic forms with a great deal of ink. These forms are like fantastic, milky clouds or columns of dense smoke from some worldly explosion. Like unpredictable waves, they spread out and away from the painting, echoing each other, creating contrasts in the white space of the painting's composition. HSIAO Cho-Yu uses a great many flowing, bizarre shapes in his painting to portray the energy of mysterious, unseen elements so that the work projects a kind of fantasy and otherworldly atmosphere, thus using this to indicate the strange and unpredictable side of reality.
