CHIU Kuo-Fong’s works are based on traditional landscape paintings and incorporate a self-created composition and brushstrokes to generate unique artistic works filled with both traditional and novel elements. Understand the Ancient Form is a composition of mountains and woods distributed evenly across the canvas to highlight the quiet, nocturnal serenity. Gold paint was used to highlight the outer contours, while saturated hues of brilliant navy blue and olive green create a rich and vibrant visual experience. Geometric lines and shapes were applied in flat tones, going beyond the conventions of ink paintings and creating a unique sense of aesthetics where tradition meets modern techniques. Poetic calligraphy written along the above margins further completes the painting. CHIU Kuo-Fong uses traditional calligraphy and art to investigate the value of both ancient and modern times, and creates modern sanctuaries on canvas where one can seek spiritual refuge.
