CHIEN Fu-Chuan’s Landscape Dialogue is a recent work that involves cutting and tearing. Simple colors and minimalist forms were used to create an abstract landscape painting. Large, blank areas were left on the canvas while a number of brushstrokes were replaced by cuts and tears made by the knife, transforming the two-dimensional space of the canvas into a diverse and changing beauty of mountain and water. Random and emotional calligraphic lines were overlapped with black and white and simplistic color tones, creating a pure and richly layered composition. CHIEN Fu-Chuan uses western media to convey eastern cultural essences and philosophies to initiate an inner spiritual dialog between the physical and virtual worlds.
