CHIEN Fu-Chuan’s Cloud Landscape is a recent series that portrays knife cuts and tearing actions. Simple colors, minimalist forms, and abstract presentations portrayed are stark contrasts to previous works. The work is composed of 2 landscapes of similar constructions with different forms and materials. One of the compositions showing a knife-cutting appears like a mountain or cloud, wherein the shape is then filled with symbolic brushstrokes. The other composition is a re-application of a cut canvas to form the shape of mountains and clouds. Both compositions portray the beauty of landscape paintings in respective interpretations. CHIEN Fu-Chuan uses western media techniques to portray the philosophical conception of eastern culture, establishing an internal spiritual dialog between the virtual and the real world.
