TUNG Hsin-Ru incorporates eastern ink painting with the artistic vocabulary of western abstract expressionism and blends the two together to create a unique spatial interpretation of traditional landscape ink paintings. Eastern calligraphic lines were also used to create the fluid forms of energy. Observe Microcosm 2015-2 is a series of randomly moving lines placed against a dark, somber background. Some lines are presented with a thick, heavy texture, others seem more like after-shadows, and there are those that appear like free-flowing drips. The greatly varied forms of the lines fill the composition with a rich and energetic atmosphere. Tung Hsin-Ru allows different froms of energy to flow and influence each other, destroying and reconstructing shapes in a constantly changing process that shifts between stable and unstable forms in the search for perfect equilibrium.
