TUNG Hsin-Ru integrates eastern ink painting and western Abstract Expressionism in works that interweave figurative and abstract elements and mix virtual and real features. Trace of Flower 2015-3, created by spontaneous application and splashing of paint spread across the canvas and the use of thick cotton to create a changing texture, shows a carmine-colored flowing space. Natural elements such as flowers, grasses, insects, and birds are hidden within the abstract composition. Flowing and spontaneous tones and symbols of animals or plants summon the primordial, mysterious, and intangible form of the universe in this ephemeral fantasy. TUNG Hsin-Ru’s artworks are attempts to explore the ideal world in our hearts. Her passionate approach to formative art and search for the extremes provide a poetic portrayal of her innermost state of mind.
