TUNG Hsin-Ru incorporates eastern ink painting with the artistic vocabulary of western abstract expressionism and blends the two together to create a unique spatial interpretation of traditional landscape ink paintings. Eastern calligraphic lines were also used to create the fluid forms of energy. Realm of Form 2013-5 includes suddenly changing lines in an impromptu dance against a dark and somber background. The thick texture and changing forms are filled with rhythm and energy, not unlike the smoke and clouds that gather in nature under the influence of atmospheric forces, or cosmic nebulae whirling about in the Universe before the birth of a star. Tung Hsin-Ru allows different froms of energy to flow and influence each other, destroying and reconstructing shapes in a constantly changing process that shifts between stable and unstable forms in the search for perfect equilibrium.
