WANG Guan-Jhen’s artworks are a log of her growing-up experience and primarily portray people with greatly distorted facial expressions or body language with seemingly chaotic yet ordered textures, tones, and brushstrokes to generate a composition immersed in a blue and stormy mood. “Fountain without Wind” portrays a girl in a distorted space before a fountain. The girl holds a dog leash while her dog runs off in another direction. The characters are contrasted against lonesome surroundings to further convey a sense of mystery. The nonchalant expressions serve as a faint whisper about loss, broken relationships, and despair. Emotional tensions are hidden underneath, creating a near-silent composition where one can almost hear a sigh. WANG Guan-Jhen creates narratives of small things people might overlook to convey the isolation and loneliness.
