WANG Guan-Jhen’s artworks are a log of her growing-up experience and primarily portray people with greatly distorted facial expressions or body language with seemingly chaotic yet ordered textures, tones, and brushstrokes to generate a composition immersed in a blue and stormy mood. “Broken Winter” portrays a girl against a gray and oppressive environment. The girl wears an expressionless face with eyes that are devoid of emotions. The nonchalant expressions serve as a faint whisper about loss, broken relationships, and despair. Emotional tensions are hidden underneath, creating a near-silent composition where one can almost hear a sigh. WANG Guan-Jhen creates narratives of small things people might overlook to convey the isolation and loneliness.
