WANG Chien-Yang’s works are contemplation and dialogs about cultural phenomenon. He often makes use of boisterous and celebrative atmospheres to create various cultural fantasies while invoking a humorous dialog of political and social topics. Manga Series: Dessert Storm takes black and white outlines of Japanese manga and fantastic stories are used as the background of the artwork. The people in the photographs are covered by black lines and patches, perfectly integrated with the background while allowing viewers to seek temporary refuge from reality by entering the virtual world constructed by comic universes. Dessert Storm is an investigation on recent food safety issues in Taiwan, providing a light-hearted and humorous outtake to reflect upon social issues that people tend to forget quickly.
