作品賞析
SUNG Hsi-Te creates sculptures that reflect upon the relationship between metals and local cultures. The characteristics of metallic materials are used to portray the landscape and personality of the islands of Dongyin. Little Island Series – Sinking Reef uses high temperature and penetration processes with heat, flames, and dynamic dissection of a metal plate to obtain the initial form of the sculpture. Heat is then allowed to build up, traverse, and explode forth from within the thick steel plate. The colors and flowing forms of steel under high temperatures correspond to natural forces that create steep mountain peaks, caves, rocks, landforms, and textures. SUNG Hsi-Te transformed the originally cold properties of steel and its reflective surfaces into a sculpture of bending lights and color and created a warm undertone for the material, portraying a figurative concept based upon eastern philosophies.
