LAI Wei-Yu often creates artworks exaggerating incidents portrayed in a fantastic style in an attempt to illustrate the various aspects of urban life. Petit Romances is a black and white composition of a night-time gathering. A small number of people are shown on a large stage, while a large crowd carrying various flags and banners surrounds the stage. The dense crowd is contrasted against the bright stage lights, creating an ephemeral sense of isolation that exists between the realms of dreams and reality. LAI Wei-Yu’s works focus on the various social issues, using a relaxed and humorous style to portray the ridiculous and bizarre phenomena that exist in the real world.
