WU Chien-Yi uses the semi-transparent nature of tape and its re-applicability to create a visual composition based on elements of everyday life. Poems on the Grille Pattern Windows is based upon building windows observed at the Qiaonan Old Street in Yanshui, Tainan. The original windows are disassembled and reconstructed using different colored paper tapes to form novel window grille patterns. When viewed upclose, one could only see repeated, two-dimensional geometric patterns of various colors. When viewed from afar, the composition transforms into an intricate window grille. WU Chien-Yi is skilled at using realism to create visual fantasies that transform mundane everyday items into unique visual symbols and impressions designed to evoke memories linked to the object, inspiring the viewer to reflect upon the different social meanings hidden behind the objects.
