Wen Meng-Wei employs techniques that revolutionize the traditional framework of ink paintings, using ink to recreate observations of stone surfaces and showcase his direct interpretations of life. Dry Landscape 5 is inspired by scenes of a dried up riverbed. Faraway mountains and flowing water, elements typical of traditional Chinese landscape paintings, are removed, leaving rocks of various sizes strewn about the exposed riverbed. Most of the painting was left intentionally blank, with rocks lying about in an orderly manner whether alone or in piles.
