Wen Meng-Wei employs techniques that revolutionize the traditional framework of ink paintings, using ink to recreate observations of stone surfaces and showcase his direct interpretations of life. Dry Landscape 1 shows a unique composition that differs from other traditional landscape paintings. Mountains and flowing water have been removed, leaving only rocks of various sizes in the near view that are strewn across the riverbed, alone or stacked into piles. Ink dots of varying densities recreate the sharp edges, smooth surfaces, and various textures and shapes of the rocks, showing that even simple rocks are able to accommodate the rhythms of living processes.
