KE Wei-Kuo’s ink paintings are inspired by Ruifang, a village where he lived in his childhood, and he often portrays the misty landscape of the small town that is nestled between the mountains and the sea. These observations of the external environments were used as a way to project innermost sensations. The Water Fantasy uses pale brushstrokes in order to create the rainy and misty mountainscape. Delicate wrinkling techniques duplicate the trails of foggy rain, generating scenes of watery light and shadows that are unique to Taiwan. The subtle yet elusive composition resembles a secluded area where visual distance is difficult to determine, leading viewers along a slow journey to appreciate the finer essences of life.
