TSAI Yi-Chieh often uses acrylic paint to illustrate everyday themes in Taiwan, recording changes observed on the appearance of Taiwanese housing during urban renovation projects initiated by real estate companies to attract buyers. LOHAS Community targeted old housing units with their corrugated rooftops. This simple composition was created using thin, semi-transparent paint and non-uniform architectural arrangements of the houses, contrasting against the perfect depictions being marketed by real estate agents while allowing viewers to experience the state of old housing marked for demolition. The thin and superficial architectural statuses serve as a metaphor of the short and illusory consumerist desires that most people harbor.
