ZENG Lin-Yuan is skilled in the use of brilliant acrylic and ink colors against large, white backgrounds. The theme of her works focus mainly upon everyday events or figments of her childhood memories, selecting and preserving emotional snippets and fleeting fragments from her life. In Happiness Parasailing, ZENG Lin-Yuan used bright colors to recreate her wonderful experience of riding a hot air balloon. Large tracts of white patches represent changes in time and space. Repeated smudges, overlays, and drips of color patches employed in the composition simulate moving afterimage effects. This work is a reinterpretation of the artist’s memories that converts personal emotions and experiences into a wondrous, touching moment that can be shared with fellow viewers and establish a sense of common identity through shared experiences.
