LIN Yi-Pei’s paintings particularly focus upon the order and gaps in man-made environments and actual nature in an attempt to present the gap between the landscape of our imaginations and the actual results of industrialization. 2009-2013 depicts an artificial balcony jutting out from a building. The shadow of the railings is projected onto the lawn. Beyond the railings lie a great expanse of the sea and the sky separated by an indistinct horizon. By inserting a cage-like construct within the natural scenery of the heavens and the oceans as well as the green lawn and blue skies, LIN Yi-Pei highlights the rigid artificiality imposed by the construct. The unnatural scenery of man-made structures in the environment lets viewers reflect upon the contradictions and differences between their fantasies and the real world.
