CHANG Ching-Wen uses glue painting to depict urban spaces in order to express the isolation and helplessness of modern life. Oasis III depicts Taiwanese residential areas and the ubiquitous presence of convenience stores. The artist employed meticulous brushwork to illustrate the extreme density of Taiwanese residences and the fact that a convenience store is located at every ground floor of each residential block. CHANG Ching-Wen believes that lifestyles molded around convenience stores are spreading unchecked, indirectly influencing lifestyles and entrapping people to the stores’ presence, and have thus created this artwork as a critique to the ridiculous phenomenon of modern life.
