WANG Chih-Wen is a sculptor and works mainly with realistic human forms. He started off using clay and slowly progressed to the use of wood. In his recent works, WANG Chih-Wen used his own child as his model to create a wooden sculpture with composite wood materials to create a unique and clay-like texture not found in traditional wooden sculptures. Tree Frog Warrior shows a young boy clad only in shorts and flippers in a squatted position, puffing his cheeks like a frog and looking up as if ready to pounce, an act that reveals his dream to be a guardian of the rainforest. The work highlights the innocence of childhood and their curiosity in new things. WANG Chih-Wen has employed a number of techniques in this work to showcase his sculpting skills. His accurate depiction of a child’s expression also conveys his passion for life.
