LEE Yeh-Lin once used sound as his creative media, but has recently taken up the camera to portray documentary shots of human landscapes that he had focused on. Li uses the technique of candid photographs with streetscapes exclusive to Taiwan as the setting to generate a series of works. In the Brew of Xian Se, LEE Yeh-Lin used a low-level shot to capture an abandoned factory awaiting its inevitable demolition. The ground before the factory houses is covered with a layer of concrete debris that is contrasted against the metal buildings dyed red by the neon lights. Through openings of the factory houses, we could catch glimpses of trees at the far background, generating a foreign visual aberration in a picture already broken by rubble. LEE Yeh-Lin’s documentary photographs and cityscape shots constructs and reflects the current state of Taiwan’s cultural diversity and heterogeneity.
