LEE Yeh-Lin once used sound as his creative media, but has recently taken up the camera to portray documentary shots of human landscapes that he had focused on. LEE Yeh-Lin uses the technique of candid photographs with streetscapes exclusive to Taiwan as the setting to generate a series of works. In GoWest, the American flag painted on the corrugated metal building portrays a dissonant and foreign atmosphere, forming a jarring contrast against the colorful lanterns symbolizing Taiwanese folk religion hanging near the walls. A bicycle parked next to the metal building and a youth walking along the street with his head bowed low further dramatizes the isolation and chaotic feelings of this work. LEE Yeh-Lin’s documentary photographs and cityscape shots constructs and reflects the current state of Taiwan’s cultural diversity and heterogeneity.
