“You and I” by Hsieh Yi-Ju shows two people standing shoulder to shoulder. The painting presents a colorful scene in bright yellow. From the blue water of the river emerge the private memory shared by the artist and friends, such as Mickey Mouse, star, and butterfly knot. The joy, estrangement, passion, and loneliness hidden in the painting resemble a theatrical play on flat painting, as the audiences are led by the artist’s strokes to think back to their interaction with friends, the love and care they received, and thus feel the tranquility and wonderfulness stirred up by past memory.
