CHUANG Rei-Hsien is very much concerned with the nature of painting. He is free with the use of materials in his work and excels in the use of color and formal symbols, simplifying the external image of things. Through a layering and building technique in Moonlight & Walls the artist depicts the accumulation of time on the wall, producing different tinctures, textures, and blemishes, concentrating all this on the canvass, creating an abstract scene of a wall that seems not to be a wall at all. Chuang seeks his inspiration in everyday things and with his brush he brings out a richness of meaning in his representations, offering the viewer an imaginative visual space as he shuttles back and forth between imaginative image and real image.
