JHENG Fu-Chen tried to liberate himself from the forms and techniques of traditional Chinese Literati painting and turned his attention to Taiwan in search of new media and a new artistic language. In The Sights & Sounds of Spring, the artist uses a sketching brush stroke with a fine brush to trace ink lines and freely draws a beautiful country scene with houses tightly packed together, surrounding hills, and plants thriving in luxurious growth. He boldly uses saturated pigments in applying color to his picture, breaking through the traditional color constraints that favored simple and muted coloration. Jheng feels that the landscape is an expansion of the individual life form. By means of simple designs he communicates his own respect and praise for the existence of natural life.
