Artwork Appreciation
HSU Ming-Jen uses the characteristics of paper and charcoal to transform fleeting landscapes that the artist had witnessed into depictions ravaged by time as proof of existence for a particular moment in life. Self-made charcoal and paper were used to create these personal and spiritual stanzas. Scenery 4 was created by repeatedly rubbing charcoal on rough paper, generating a basic material of the most original texture and a fuzzy base for creative work. The shape of a dandelion blossom, like a fragment of near-forgotten memories, could be seen against this blurry background.
