Artwork Appreciation
SHI Jin-Hua is an artist who has long paid attention to concepts and behaviors. “Pen Walking” is a signature creativity of his series. For SHI Jin-Hua, the “pen” symbolizes the life while irregular traces drawn by the pen resembles the acts of lifetime, which gradually shortens with time. The work, “Pen Walking 65” uses crayon as medium to repeat walking on the paper back and forth. The shaking and curving trajectories symbolize the ups and downs in life. Each path taken may seem similar but is yet different. However, the paths eventually all return to the destination upon depletion and exhaustion. “Walking Pen” reflects the destiny and incarnation of one’s life, which also portrays the records of exploration into the essence of life from the artist to the viewers.
