Artwork Appreciation
SHIAU Ya-Hsin has spent more than a year traveling in Australia. Upon returning to Taiwan, she started a series of oil paintings based on the continent to share wonderful memories and beauteous sights of nature and portray the spirituality of the land, the brightness of the sun, and the blueness of the lakes. In Wind, SHIAU Ya-Hsin portrays the wafting air on an Australian lake with strokes, color, and line. Strokes of sky-blue are strewn diagonally across, with irregular color blocks embodying the gentle breeze. This work is a symphonic orchestra of colors riding along the seasonal winds. Well-placed patches of brown and red have been added to the lower part of this chorus, bringing with it the smell of freshly tilled land. The colors introduce yet another dash of vitality into the composition, presenting a natural world filled with the rapturous melody of life.
