Artwork Appreciation
LIN Hou-Cheng’s Passed by Past is a composition of 5 black and white photographs. The color tones are simple and pure. Lighting, shadow, and angles point towards LIN Hou-Cheng’s professionalism and skills in photography. Detailed scruitny reveals a human-formed silhouette, some standing in the bright areas as though waiting for a better future. Others seems to linger at the border of darkness and light, as though contemplating on the very nature of life. Changing positions of the figure and the differences in the proportion of black and white areas in the entire composition gave a different expression and atmosphere to each photograph. To LIN Hou-Cheng, the very act of pressing the shutter button is accompanied by anxiety for the unkown as well as the thrill of adventure. By recording the past, LIN Hou-Cheng hopes to create a unique and exciting future.
