Have your spring

Artist Lee Kai-Chen uses ink as her primary medium and often draws inspiration from her daily walks. With a fine brushstroke, she depicts the flowers, plants, stones, and birds she encounters during these walks. These inconspicuous little things in our daily environment quietly bloom and breathe slowly under her brush, forming page after page of her intimate diary of the present. Living in the humid climate of northern Taiwan, Li Kai-Chen is fascinated by the air filled with moisture after rain and the plants enveloped by it. Her work Have Your Spring depicts the often foggy early spring season and the memories, time, and paths she took during her walks. The images of the triptych are interwoven and overlapped, with the creeping plants and blank spaces filled with a misty ambiguity and a feeling of gradual penetration, making it seem as if one can smell the moist air in one’s memory and then walk into the mist.
