Artist Hsieh Jung-Wei continually explores the possibilities of light. In his “Remaining Obscurity” series, he turns to the aesthetics of what cannot be seen. The seemingly regular geometric forms contain missing corners and shifts in length- intentional choices that create visual balance and dynamic tension. The artist was studying architecture at the time of this work, while his understanding of spatial structure through plan and section drawings indirectly influenced his approach to two-dimensional painting. Certain blocks of color within the painting, resembling building walls or cylinders, subtly bear the characteristics of architectural sections. For the artist, every stroke of his rollerball pen on white paper represents the accumulation of time. The pen becomes a ruler measuring time and recording the trajectory of life. In the interplay of light, shadow, and darkness, it reflects the profound dialogue between life and time.
